Beadnell, Northumberland. The harbour walls were built in the drystone wall way, probably in the 1790s when the lime kilns which stand nearby were also constructed. The kilns, a relic of the days when Beadnell shipped coal and lime, belong to the National Trust. There is some crab and lobster fishing and a good holiday trade here. The sandy beaches are excellent and there is safe yachting in the wide Beadnell Bay. A large caravan park shelters behind the dunes. The Craster Arms is built round a 1460 defensive peel-tower. The 1740 church was restored in pseudo-Gothic fashion with an odd pierced octagonal stone screen placed round its short spire in 1860.
