Visit Bonchurch and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Bonchurch, Isle of Wight, is a small village in a beautiful setting, below St Boniface Down, the island's highest point. On the cliffside are neat Victorian marine villas. Below the village is a little cove, known as Monks Bay. The Old Church is Norman, built on the site of an 8th-century Anglo-Saxon structure. It is recorded in the Domesday Book and is dedicated to St Boniface.
Not far from the Old Church is the site of a Roman Camp, and the tumbled rock of the Upper and Lower Landslips. This whole southern part of the island is well signposted and has good roads, but exploring the winding footpaths of the area will provide many extra rewards in terms of beauty, history and pleasure.
The poet Swinbourne is buried in the churchyard of the New Church.
