Visit Clacton-On-Sea and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:

Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, has for a long time been one of the most popular of holiday resorts, with behind it the two villages of Great and Little Clacton. The former has a much restored Norman church (St John the Baptist), the Mansion House (Georgian), the Ship Inn and the bow-windowed Queen's Head. The latter has St James's, another church of Norman origin with a Purbeck marble font.

Clacton-on-Sea developed in the 1870s and followed the pattern of the other resorts on the East Coast, such as Frinton and Walton. There are three Martello towers. a feature of much of the coast-line. The Royal Hotel was built in 1872, the Grand in 1897 and the other buildings associated with a resort soon followed. St James's Church in Tower Road was built in 1913, presenting an odd contrast in styles; the Roman Catholic church in Church Road was a little earlier (1902).

The pier has been rebuilt several times since it was first erected in 1873. to be followed in 1890 by the pavilion. The giant scenic railway, one of the most striking features of the front, was added in the l930s at about the same time as the Town Hall.

Despite its name the Moot Hall is a private house, built from timbers taken from an old barn at Hawstead, not far from Bury St Edmunds. The rash of holiday camps which have spread along the coast provides excellent holiday facilities, if not adding anything to the visual appeal of the town. To the south is Jaywick Sands, a caravan and chalet centre.

The beach is sandy, there is every possible holiday amenity and entertainment.
