Visit Dartford and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Dartford, Kent, has become an industrial town with crowded streets, and motorists bound for the Dartford Tunnel. This, opened in 1963, is nearly 1 mile long, boring beneath the Thames to connect the A2 in Kent with the A13 in Essex. The parish church, Holy Trinity, was originally built late in the 11th century; the tower is Norman, and there is Early English work, and a Jacobean pulpit. The church was restored and added to during the 19th century, when an interesting 11th-century wall painting came to light. Of other old buildings the Bull inn, with its galleried courtyard, is an interesting relic of coaching days.
