Visit Formby and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Formby, Merseyside. The sea was here once and there was a fishing village on the shore, but the sea has receded as on various parts of the west coast. At Formby it is a mile or so away, beyond extensive sandhills. The National Trust control 400 acres of sand dunes and fore-shore West of the town. These were bought by public subscription in 1967 as part of Enterprise Neptune, and constitute the nearest unspoilt coastline to the centre of Liverpool. The Church of St Peter of brick and stone was built in 1736. It has a bell-turret, large windows with round tops and clear glass. A chancel and side chapel were built in Gothic style in 1873.
