Visit Haltwhistle and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Haltwhistle, Northumberland. A small market town for a large rural district, Haltwhistle makes a good jumping-off point for visits to Hadrian's Wall which lies to the North. The town is tucked into the juncture of Halt-whistle Burn and the South Tyne. Holy Cross Church, towerless and almost hidden in trees, is regarded as an unusually good example of Early English architecture. On the north bank of the river about 3 miles away is Featherstone Castle, a 14th-century peel-tower to which a Jacobean mansion was attached. Halt-whistle Castle, a fortified house, has been demolished.
