Hathersage, Derbyshire. It is said that Little John, Robin Hood's henchman, was born here; and that from a cottage here he shot the arrow to mark the spot where he wished to be buried. The Church of St Michael occupies a commanding position on the highest point of the town, and accentuates it by its spire. Built towards the end of the 14^th century, but restored by Butterfield in 1862, it is highly thought of by authorities on church architecture; and is renowned for its wealth of good brasses, memorials to the Eyre family dating back to 1459.
