Visit Honiton and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Honiton, Devon. The splendid by-pass has entirely changed its stature. Instead of being suffocated by motorists, it is revealed as it was to horse and coach travellers: an unusually attractive small town with a long, Georgian main street. Among older buildings are Marwood House, now an antique shop, at the east end, and St Margaret's Hospital, a group of partly 16th-century thatched cottages at the west end. Honiton was famous for Lace from the 16th to the 19th century. Lace-making survives, just. Visitors can see pots made in a pottery. The town is an antiques trade centre. The most popular building with children is the embattled toll-house called the Copper Castle by the road out to Axminster.
