Visit Nefyn and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Nefyn, Gwynedd. Little more than a fishing village in recent years, Nefyn has developed as one of the most attractive resorts of the Lleyn. It stands between the sea with its stretch of firm and moulded sands, the sea-land called Morfa Nefyn, and the hill of Garn Bodfuan (918 ft). Facilities for sport include riding, fishing, and golf. Its past was magnificent. It was specially favoured by Edward I of England, who may well have been attracted by its level and gentle beauty. After the fall of Llywelyn the Last, the English King held a tournament to celebrate his triumph as part of a general festival at Nefyn in 1284; and the site of the lists can still be traced. To confirm Nefyn as a place he chose to honour, his successors created Nefyn in 1355 as one of the ten Royal Boroughs in North Wales. The woods on Garn Bodfuan are beautiful, and hidden in them are the “cythiau gwyddelog” or stone-built circular hut sites frequent in Lleyn and marking a settlement of people pre-British or even pre-Celtic. Bodfuan village, a little way off, has a hall with a lake and well-laid-out grounds. The house itself is a pleasant example of l8th century architecture.
Nefyn is separated from the wide bay of Porth Dinllaen by a small promontory, the Penrhyn. This bay, too, offers excellent bathing and sea-fishing, and is shut in from the broader seas by its own promontory, where there is an inn and the remains of an old fortress site.
