Visit New Lanark and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
New Lanark, South Lanarkshire. The former manufacturing village of about 170 houses on the wooded banks of the Clyde is 1 mile South West of Lanark. Founded in 1783 by the philanthropist David Dale as a cotton-spinning centre and experiment in community living, it was later the scene of a farsighted social experiment of Dale's son-in-law Robert Owen, in housing, factory management, and education. The original mill buildings are distinguished and well preserved.
