Visit Pateley Bridge and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. Upper Nidderdale, which contains the noted How Stean gorge, is easily explored from Pateley Bridge, the ancient centre of the dale. It has a narrow, plunging High Street. Well above the town are the ruins of the medieval St Mary's Church with distant views of the moors from the churchyard. This has been a market town since the 14th century. The Romans worked the lead deposits in the vicinity. Flax and linen industries once flourished in this remote and beautiful setting. In steep Greenhow Hill are the Stump Cross Caverns with a quarter mile of strange rock formations.
