Visit Redcar and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Redcar, North Yorkshire. The “poor fysher-toune” of the 16th century has turned into a holiday resort for Teesside. Coatham, now part of Redcar, was the more significant port in medieval times, manufacturing salt by boiling sea water and later turning to alum burning. Redcar has three beaches and three long rocky reefs, called scars, running out to sea which are left bare, but for seaweed, in low tides. These form a breakwater which has also been a hazard to shipping throughout history.
