Shawbost, Na h-Eileanan Siar (Western Isles), is a village on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. About 13 miles North West of Stornoway, Shawbost has been spoken of as the “richest village in the Lews”. Perhaps it would be more apt to call it a small town or township, for it straggles at considerable length along the West coast, and contains many houses. Its reputed wealth springs largely from weaving. It has its own small wool mill, and has achieved its prosperity entirely by its own effort.
