Visit Springfield and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Springfield, Dumfries and Galloway, to the East of Gretna, was a village founded by weavers in 1791. During the 18th century marriages were performed here in competition with Gretna as the main Glasgow— Carlisle road went through the village, crossing the River Esk at Longtown. Springfield's “marriage trade” was lost with the building of the new Sark Bridge in 1830.
