St Abbs, Scottish Borders. This quaint fishing village, with its picturesque row of buildings used for storing fishing gear, is a popular holiday resort, having a good sandy beach and a magnificent coastline. A lighthouse stands on one of the rocky headlands, under which are many caves formerly used by smugglers.

About 3 miles North of St Abbs lie the ruins of Fast Castle, a sea fortress 70 ft above sea-level, once separated by a 24-ft ditch but now accessible by a very narrow path. This castle was the stronghold of Logan of Restalrig, who was involved in the Gowrie conspiracy; it is, however, more famous as the prototype of Wolf's Crag, the tower of Edgar of Ravenswood in Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor.
