Visit St Helens and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
St Helen's, Merseyside. This industrial centre has since the 18th century gained a world-wide reputation for its production of glass. In Prescot Road is the Pilkington Glass Museum, displaying English and Continental examples of the craft. There is also a tiny figure from Egypt of the god Bes, and a George IV glass decanter. Ample supplies of almost uniform sand grains has helped glass-making at St Helen's.
The Gamble Institute houses the library.
