Visit Standish and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Standish, Greater Manchester. The church has an imposing steeple rebuilt in 1867, which is a landmark for miles. In the churchyard to the left of the main entrance lies a boulder about 4 ft high, found buried 11 ft deep in 1895 according to its inscription, and presumably from the Ice Age. The Church of St Wilfred is a curiosity: late Gothic(1582—4) in general form — it has Classical details. Where the nave and chancel meet are two domed turrets with stairs inside them. Of note are the roofs, font, pulpit, tombs and monuments. The rich stained glass is Victorian, and a modern vestry was added in 1913.
