Visit Strood and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Strood, Kent. One of the Medway Towns on the opposite side of the river facing Rochester. It is chiefly notable for Temple Manor which was originally built by the Knights Templars in the first quarter of the 13th century. It later became a nunnery until the suppression of the religious orders by Henry VIII and following that was a farm-house for centuries. In a ruinous state after the Second World War, it has been restored and is open to the public throughout the year. The building contains a 13th century hall on a vaulted undercroft of three bays, and 17th century, brick extensions. Much was rebuilt, but the original form was retained.
