Visit Troon and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Troon, South Ayrshire. The name of this town derives from the same source as “Tron” and refers to the “nose” or promontory on which the burgh sits. Troon is a dormitory town for Glasgow, to which it is connected by an excellent train service. It lies on the coast to the North of Ayr. While Troon has a fine harbour with shipbuilding and ship-breaking yards (the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company was founded by a marquess of Ailsa), it is best known for its golf courses, of which there are five. A visitor could spend a week, golfing each day on a different course of championship, or near championship, standard. Old Troon, Troon Portland, Old Prestwick, Western Gailes, Turnberry, and Ayr Belleisle are all comparatively close at hand and all well calculated to test the skill of the most accomplished. Troon is the West-coast St Andrews.
