Visit Turnberry and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Turnberry, South Ayrshire. The name of Turnberry properly applies to the promontory immediately to the South of Maidens Bay, on which may be found the remains of the ancient Tumberry Castle, the childhood home of Robert Bruce. This promontory, or Maidens Bay, was the landing-place of Bruce and his little band when he came from Arran to Carrick and Galloway at the start of his final campaign of liberation. Today Turnberry stands for a “super” hotel and two championship golf courses that lie to the southward of the old castle. It claims a specially dry and sunny climate, a claim that appears to be well founded.
