Visit Wotton-under-Edge and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. This old market town on the edge of the Cotswolds has some fine old buildings including a 14th century school and a 14th to 15th century church. Among the interesting treasures in the church are some fine brasses and an century organ built by Christopher Schrider for St Martin-in—the—Fields, London, and played by Handel at a time when George I attended services there. The Vicar of Wotton bought it when St Martin's discarded it. In Orchard Street is a house where Isaac Pitman (1813—97), a schoolmaster at Wotton, devised his system of shorthand. The almshouses date from 1632.
