Visit Castletown and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Castletown, Isle of Man. The island's former capital surrounds Castle Rushen, one of the finest medieval fortresses in Britain. Narrow streets crammed with quaint grey houses lead to a spacious beach at the edge of Castletown Bay. The Nautical Museum, in a 200-year-old three-storey boathouse, exhibits what is probably the country's oldest schooner-rigged yacht, the Peggy, built in 1791. Several fine walks lead to hills that are sometimes shrouded in mist; in Manx legend the mist is the protective cloak of Mannanan, an ancient god of the sea, and hides the island from would-be invaders.
