Garelochhead, Argyll and Bute. This well-known resort at the head of Gare Loch (the Gare Loch comparatively near Glasgow, and not to be confused with Gair Loch in Ross and Cromarty, is a popular centre for yachting and is also used as an anchorage for naval vessels.
A steamer service used to call at Garelochhead until the Second World War. In 1853 the incursions of this public steamer was responsible for the so-called “Battle of Garelochhead”, when Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, with the help of his gamekeepers, unsuccessfully attempted to stop trippers from an excursion landing on Sunday.
