Visit and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Jura, Argyll and Bute, just North East of Islay, is one of the southern Inner Hebrides. About 28 miles long, it is a mountainous island now largely divided into sporting estates. A road, of which the northernmost section has been allowed to disappear, connects the ferry opposite Port Askaig in Islay in the South with the northern tip of Jura, from which the whirlpool of Corrievrechan can be viewed (and its roaring sound heard at certain states of wind and tide). The highest of the three paps of Jura, which form a splendid part of the prospect both on the island itself and from neighbouring Islay and over the sea in Kintyre, is 2,569 ft. There are some fine raised beaches and caves on the West coast, which has never been settled. There are a few small communities on the East with Craighouse as the main village. A group of islands forms a natural breakwater across the Bay of Small Isles, where the steamer from East Loch Tarbert on the Argyll mainland calls regularly.

Nearby villages: Ardfin, Ardlussa, Ardmenish, Ballygrant, Barr, Bowmore, Carradale, Craighouse, Feolin Ferry, Keillmore, Kilmartin, Lagg, Port Askaig, Port Charlotte, Tarbert
