Visit and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Port Charlotte, Argyll and Bute, is on the Isle of Islay, in the Inner Hebrides. This village was projected in 1828 and was named after the mother of W. F. Campbell of Islay, the noted Gaelic Scholar. It lies along the western shore of Loch Indaal. The street names are in Gaelic.
Some 3 miles South of Port Charlotte is Nereabolls, where three adjoining burial grounds have fine carved stones. About 4 miles beyond Nereabolls is Portnahaven, a semicircular village round the bay, with the Rhinns of Islay lighthouse on an island beyond.
Kilchiaran, with a roofless chapel and carved stones, lies 4 miles West of Port Charlotte, on the West coast. A very fine walk of about 3 miles North along the cliffs leads to Kilchoman with a wide sandy bay. There is here in the churchyard a fine, carved stone cross.
