Visit Kyleakin and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Kyleakin, Isle of Skye, is a village on the Island of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. This is the nearest inhabited spot on the island to the mainland, and acts as the Skye end of the ferry over the short distance from Kyle in Scotland. It is for most visitors their first encounter with the celebrated “Misty Isle”. A touch of Skye's past is immediately discovered in the remains of Castle Moil, a miniature Highland keep, believed to have been built by the daughter of a Norse king who, it is said, levied a toll from ships passing through the straits between Skye and the mainland. Kyleakin indubitably owes its name to Norse origins, the “akin” part of it coming from King Haakon, who sailed through the straits on his way to defeat, at the Battle of Laros.
