Visit Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast accommodation:
Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. Sutton Coldfield is only 7 miles from Birmingham and has become mainly a residential area for that city. Its nucleus is the old market town, important in the Middle Ages, and it has its own modern shopping centre. The Parade reflects a continuity of spirit from its early days. The town owes much to a native son, John Veysey, who became Bishop of Exeter in 1519. He lived at Moor Hall, now in the park. Many of the buildings he erected still stand, notably Veysey Grange in Weeford Road, New Hall Mill, High Heath Cottage, and the Old Stone House. He not only founded the school here, but built the Moot Hall and completely paved the streets of Sutton. He is buried in the large Parish Church of Holy Trinity, with his brilliantly painted effigy lying upon his tomb.
Sutton Park is one of the largest and finest pleasure gardens in the county. its 2,400 acres of woodlands and lakes has the ancient Roman Ryknild Street running through it. Presented to the Warden of the Royal Town by a Charter of Henry VIII, it is still administered by the Corporation of Sutton Coldfield.
